The characteristics of carbon steel forgings
Carbon is less than 1.35% in carbon steel. Carbon steel only contains iron, carbon and small amounts of silicon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur without other alloying elements. The performance of carbon steel forgings depends on carbon percentage. Carbon percentage increased, the strength and hardness increased, plasticity and weldability decrease.

2. Carbon steel forgings have good plasticity, it is easy to shape. Carbon steel forgings could be forged by hot forging, cold forging, and warm forging
3. An obvious weakness of carbon steel forgings is poor hardenability. Forging carbon steel can not meet the quality requirements of some large-size forging parts.
4. Carbon steel forgings have poor corrosion resistance; not good stability on heat treating.

Auto Forgings
Carbon steel forging was an important part of auto forgings. About 17-30% automotive forgings are carbon steel forgings.
